History

The MTMUA was created in 1961 by an “Act of Township Committee”.

It was chartered to provide water and sewer services. Beginning 2/1/09 the MTMUA became the MTUD, a dedicated utility within the Township.

The Department is serving a population of about 34,000 and a geographic area of about forty three square miles. The water system consists of nine wells, four storage tanks, and over 230 miles of water distribution mains with interconnections to South Brunswick Twp, N.J. American Water Co., Jamesburg, Old Bridge MUA, and Spotswood.

The sanitary sewer system comprises 13 pumping stations and over 260 miles of sewer mains. The total amount of infrastructure is valued in excess of $205 Million.

The MTUD also has a shared services agreement with the Boroughs of Jamesburg, Helmetta, and the Township of Cranbury to provide various levels of sanitary sewer service.
